OLE N. JUNKER
Ole N. Junker, whose death occured at their farm home on Thursday, June 3rd, was born in Vanderuke, Slezevig, Holstine, Denmark on June 27, 1848 and came to America in 1870. The summer of 1870 was spent in Detroit, Michigan, but in the fall of that year he came to Clay County to join his parents who had established a home here. He became a citizen of this country almost immediately; his application for citizenship being signed by Col. J. L. Jolley. He was married to Miss Johanna Marie Severson on February 6, 1878 in the Bergan Lutheran Church, Rev. Hustvedt officiating.
As a pioneer, Mr. Junker experienced many of the hardships of the early days, such as the grasshopper scourge, the severe winters of 1871-72 and the memorable flood of 1881. He was a charter member of the Farmer's Alliance Insurance Co., and held policy No. 1 in that co-operative association. When Mr. Junker first started farming in Clay county their farm products were carted to Yankton by ox team and their wheat was milled at St. James, Nebraska. He has been a continuous subscriber to Plain Talk since its first issue, and had spent all his life since 1870 in this county with the exception of the summer of 1904, which he spent visiting boyhood friends in Denmark.
He is survived by his wife, three daughters, Mrs. Anna C. Trusty of Gross, Nebraska, Mrs. Cora A. Deegan and Mrs. Elvina C. Peterson of Lucas, South Dakota, and one sister, Mrs. P. Lund. Two sons died in infancy.
Funeral services held at the Danish Lutheran church last Monday were attended by a host of friends who had known and respected the deceased over a long period of years.
