Classification: Query
Surnames: PURCELL, DELANEY
I am looking to confirm births and marriages for any Purcells at Ballyragget in the time period of 1800-1845. Specific names of interest are: marriages: Thomas Purcell & Anna, John Purcell & Alice, Edmond Purcell & Ellen, Alice Purcell & Timothy Delaney.
births:
Edmond b. abt. 1819
Richard b. abt 1830,
Alice b. abt. 1833
Ann b. abt. 1834
Catherine b. abt. 1836
Thomas & Anna are the parents of Richard. John & Alice are the parents of Alice. Edmond married a woman named Ellen from Ireland.
Edmond, Richard, Alice, Ann & Catherine Purcell all immigrated to the USA. Family stories say Timothy Delaney & Alice came down through Canada and settled in Cobleskill, Schoharie County, New York. Tim Delaney's naturalization application puts them in the U.S. by June of 1846. In 1850, Tim, his wife Alice, their one year old son, Patrick and both Ann & Catherine Purcell were living in the same household in New York State. Patrick Henry Delaney was listed as being born in Vermont and in some documents in Canada.
In the early 1850's Tim Delaney & family were settled in Cobleskill, NY, where both Edmond and Richard Purcell are also living. Ann Purcell is married to Michael Sheehan and they reside in West Troy/Watervliet in Albany County, NY. This is where many of the Purcells & Delaneys later migrate and reside. It is not known at this point what happened to Catherine Purcell after 1850.
We KNOW it is likely that Richard Purcell & Alice Purcell Delaney were cousins, as their fathers are different. We don't know the relationships of Edmond, Ann & Catherine however.
Perhaps someone has access to Catholic church registers in Ballyragget? Any help in untangling this family and putting names & dates in place would be sincerely appreciated.

Found Dead.-Timothy Delaney, an Irishman, resident of Cobleskill, and employed by the A & S R R. Co. as watchman on the cut between Warnerville and Richmondville, was found dead on Tuesday morning (11/21/1865). The body was discovered lying at the foot of the trestlework, 50 feet down, and it is supposed by some that he fell off in the act of crossing. His person showed some marks of injury. His lamp and umbrella however, were lying by his side, the lamp unbroken, which circumstance forms the basis of different theories as to his death.
The deceased leaves a large family and circle of friends to mourn his loss.

While doing continued genealogy research for my relative Timothy Delaney Sr., I recently found this death notice for him:
From the Schoharie (NY) Union dated 11/23/1865--
"Found Dead.-Timothy Delaney, an Irishman, resident of Cobleskill, and employed by the A & S R R. Co. as watchman on the cut between Warnerville and Richmondville, was found dead on Tuesday morning (11/21/1865).
The deceased leaves a large family and circle of friends to mourn his loss."
Does anyone have any record of where this "cut" and trestlework would have been located? If so, does anything still exist of the A & S railroad presence there?
I am also seeking to find any other mention of his death, its investigation, railroad employment records and burial records for him. We are hoping to discover where in Ireland he originated and anything else not previously known about him and his family.
