      Dorothy Sistrom

      A funeral Mass will be held later for Dorothy E. Sistrom of Eugene, who died March 15 of mesothelioma at age 81. Inurnment will be at Mount Calvary Cemetery in Eugene.

      She was born June 23, 1929, in Tucson, Ariz., to Harry and Gertrude Pfannenstiel Ellis. She married William Robert Sistrom on June 26, 1952, in Tucson. He died in 1993.

      She earned a bachelor's degree from the University of Arizona and a master's degree from the University of California, Berkeley. She was a community activist.

      Survivors include three sons, Christopher of Gainesville, Fla., Peter of Brooklyn, N.Y., and Michael of Durham, N.C.; a daughter, Anne Sistrom Erwin of Beaverton; a sister, Kay Magee of McCall, Idaho; and six grand-children.

      Arrangements by Musgrove Family Mortuary in Eugene.

      Remembrances to St. Vincent de Paul Society of Lane County for FOOD for Lane County.

      The Arizona Daily Star, 27 May 2011**SISTROM, Dorothy Ellis, died in Portland, Oregon March 15, 2011 at the age of 81. She grew up in Tucson and attended local schools, graduating from Tucson High School in 1947 and from the University of Arizona with honors in 1951. She met her future husband, Bill Sistrom, while a graduate student at the University of California, Berkeley. They married in 1952 and together lived in France, New York, Massachusetts and Oregon, where Bill was on the faculty and Dorothy worked in microbiology at the University of Oregon. Dorothy was always concerned with and active in organizations dedicated to social justice, feeding the hungry, education and the environment. She was predeceased by her husband, and is survived by her four children, grandchildren and her sister, Kay Ellis (Jack) Magee, who also grew up in Tucson. She was laid to rest in Portland, where a Memorial Mass was held Saturday, April 9, 2011. Arrangements by MUSGROVE FAMILY MORTUARY.
